I once saw similar motifs used on ironwork on the porch of a 19th-century funeral home. The building had always been a funeral home and the ironwork was original. It was then that I learned that both dragonflies and butterflies are symbols of metamorphasis/resurrection. Since then I've always considered them as a pair: herbivore & carnivore, both creatures of the Light.
